My name is Kelly Walker, and I have been teaching at WGHS since 2015. In addition to Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and Marching Band, I also teach Mixed Choir, Chamber Singers, and AP Music Theory and I vocal direct the fall and spring musicals. I believe that music is a huge part of the human experience and that we as musicians have a unique, important opportunity to spend part of each day improving our musical skills and expressing ourselves in a creative way.
My educational background is mostly in vocal performance; however, some of my best memories and experiences in high school happened in band. I received a B.A. in Music from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and an M.A. in Music from San Jose State University. In addition to teaching, I have sung in the San Francisco Symphony Chorus and various other choral groups in the Bay Area. I also occasionally perform with musical theater and opera groups and lead worship at church on Sunday mornings.
When I'm not making music (which is a rarity), I enjoy reading, binge watching my favorite shows on Netflix, and hanging out with my husband, our daughter Clara, and our two cats, Nigel and Nora.
